Note: the default build of AMS depends on the "expat" XML parsing library
for C.  expat is included in just about all distributions of Linux and other
Unix-derived operating systems, but not in (for example) VxWorks 5.4.  If
you need to build AMS for an operating environment that lacks expat, either
compile with the -DNOEXPAT switch set or else download expat from SourceForge
and install as advised:
